Promotion of musical talent

The Possehl Music Prize, awarded annually by the Possehl Foundation and the Lübeck College of Music since 1963, honours outstanding musicians in all instrumental categories who study in Lübeck. Recently, prizes have also been awarded for piano accompaniment and innovative performance concepts.

Competition & prizewinners' concert

The annual prizewinners' concert takes place every January, and this varied evening full of music is an established feature of cultural life in Lübeck. Since a lot of chamber music is played, the Possehl Foundation recently introduced a prize for piano accompaniment. This is intended to recognise the importance of piano accompanists for a successful artistic performance. The College of Music and the Foundation also launched a new award in 2018: the "OPEN SPACE Possehl Prize for Contemporary Musical Performance Concepts".
