Opportunities for education

Education at all levels is a focus of the Possehl Foundation’s work. In close cooperation with the town council, and in dialogue with other foundations in Lübeck, we want to help ensure that nursery schools, schools and youth clubs in Lübeck are able to offer children and teenagers in Lübeck a wealth of opportunities to enjoy learning and acquire life skills – regardless of their social or cultural background.

Holiday fun for children and young people

For over 25 years, the Youth Section of the Lübeck Gymnastic and Sports Association has been organising holiday camps for children and young people whose families are cannot do so. Every year, a large team of young people and youth workers go to great lengths to help financially and socially disadvantaged children to have unforgettable holidays.

The children can enjoy relaxing holidays with plenty of exercise, healthy eating and valuable social contacts. Every day features games, fun and sport together. New friendships are made and for some participants, the foundations are laid for their own future involvement as youth group leaders.

The Possehl Foundation sponsors these holiday programmes and provides reliable resources in addition to the extensive public funding provided by the Hanseatic City of Lübeck and the state of Schleswig-Holstein.

Historical Village

The Historical Village (Geschichtserlebnisraum Roter Hahn e.V.) is a unique place in Germany, which since 1999 has brought early and high medieval worlds back to life. Typical historical buildings are reconstructed here and can be used and visited. Children and young people are involved in the building process and the site is used for educational activities, festivals and events. Some of the sheds and barns house breeds of domestic animals that are now rare.
One of the highlights of its current activities is the construction of a medieval monastery in the style of the 12th century. Beautiful windows have now been fitted in the refectory. This was made possible by a practical partnership between the Regional College of Glass and Glazing in Travemünde and the Historical Village, which illustrates how much craftsmanship and talent for design can be involved in working as a glazier.
